Throughout my life I have worn many hats. Professionally I have been a student, a tree planter, a convenience store clerk, a teacher, a librarian, a writer, an employee, a retiree, a business owner and a counsellor. In my personal life, I have been a daughter, a mother, a wife, a divorcee, a widow and a single parent.
At 56, I am proud to say, I have taken a bite out of life and savoured it, the bitter and the sweet. I have experienced triumph and grief, poverty and abundance, upheaval and peace, tragedy and contentment. I bring that lived experience to my counselling practice, which helps me to empathize with and connect to clients in a non-judgemental way.
I have experience working with men, women and children in all stages of their lives, from the ages of 6 to 75. Supporting them through grief, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD and relationship problems.
I am committed to lifelong learning, reading, taking courses and expanding my clinical skills. My training includes DBT-C (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Certification), CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), CCTP I and II (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Levels 1 and 2), TIST (Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment) and IFS (Internal Family Systems) and I am currently enrolled in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) certification training.
I have a keen interest in neurobiology and how the brain, body, nervous system and emotions are inextricably intertwined. I believe that your mental health profoundly impacts your physical health and vice versa.
If you’re looking for a seasoned, caring counsellor to walk alongside you, I’d be honored to be that person. Let’s begin your healing journey together.
